MPP Rickford Announces Funding for Alzheimer Service Coordinator

KENORA – The Ontario government is investing over $45,000 in the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River to support an additional client services coordinator in Northwestern Ontario.

“Our government recognizes the importance of investing in opportunities that streamline services for patients and caregivers in the Northwest,” said Greg Rickford, MPP for Kenora–Rainy River. “Today is another example of how our government’s targeted investments directly improve access to care and overall health outcomes for Northerners.”

The local funding is part of Ontario’s investment of up to $64.1 million to reduce Alternative Level of Care (ALC) and support patient flow from hospitals to more appropriate care settings.

Funding will be distributed across the following themes:

  • Capacity Maximization
  • Admission Diversion
  • Discharge Supports
  • Local Strategies
  • Home and Community Care

“The Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts would like to thank Ontario Health North West for this funding of $45,060 to enhance caregiver support,” says Rossana Tomashowski, Executive Director of Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts. “The funding is in support of Ontario’s plan to stay open strategy which focuses on right care in the right place, easing pressure on Emergency Department visits and expanding Ontario’s Health Workforce.”

The Ontario government is investing in building a stronger, more resilient health system as part of Plan to Stay Open: Health System Stability and Recovery.
