MPP Rickford Announces Funding for Recreational Facilitator in Machin
April 18, 2023
DRYDEN – Today, MPP Greg Rickford announced that Municipality of Machin will receive $178,800 over 24 months through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund to renew the Recreational Facilitator position to support the community as they build capacity, resilience, and sustainability.
“As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, our government recognizes the importance of staying active at all ages for our mental health and wellbeing,” said Greg Rickford, Member of Provincial Parliament for Kenora-Rainy River. “Through the Resilient Communities Fund, our government is investing in engaging projects that continue to make a positive difference in the Northwest.”
The Ontario government is providing nearly $30 million this year through the Resilient Communities Fund to 283 non-profit organizations across the province. This funding will enable these organizations to deliver the best service possible and ensure that Ontarians will have stable access to their programming.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will also be used by the Municipality to help with programs like yoga, tai-chi, disco rollerblading, armchair travel, kids camp, and art classes. These programs allow members of the community the chance to get out and socialize, stay active, and contribute to a healthier lifestyle.
“Having a Recreation Facilitator has been extremely successful for creating activities in our communities,” said Gordon Griffiths, Mayor of the Municipality of Machin. “The community events, and programs like yoga, armchair travel, and disco rollerblading are all directly related to funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and would not happen without it.”
“Non-profit organizations are an important and valued part of Ontario communities,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “Countless people rely on their services to find jobs and lead healthier, happier lives. Funding from the Resilient Communities Fund will help these non-profits to adapt and grow – ensuring that they are able to continue to assist those within our community who need them the most.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrates 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities. Last year, OTF invested over $110M into 1,022 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
