MPP Rickford Announces Investments in the Fort Frances Museum and Cultural Centre

Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport is enhancing cultural and educational opportunities in the Northwest

FORT FRANCES – Today, while MPP Rickford was on-site at Fort Frances Museum and Cultural Centre to tour the “Indigenous Ingenuity” exhibit, the Ontario government announced an investment of $84,800 through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Resilient Communities Fund in the Fort Frances Museum and Cultural Centre to increase and enhance digital offerings, learning opportunities, community curation, and cultural tourism.

“As we continue to attract families to the Northwest, our government understands the importance of supporting organizations with new and emerging technologies and learning opportunities here in Fort Frances,” said Greg Rickford, Member of Provincial Parliament for Kenora-Rainy River. “Through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we are proudly investing in the Fort Frances Museum and Cultural Centre so they can build their capacity and continue serving tourist and residents of all ages.”

“Non-profit organizations across Ontario deliver programming that makes a difference,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “That’s why funding that my ministry is providing through the OTF is so important. Our government wants to ensure that these programs and spaces remain the heart of communities across our province.”

“With the support of the Ontario Government, Minister Rickford, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we are embarking on a journey towards sustainability,” said Danielle Marshall, M.A., Museum Curator. “Through the creation of our Museum Strategic Plan and Cultural Master Plan, we envision a vibrant future, intertwining the rich tapestry of our heritage with the cultural fabric of our town, fueled by extensive community engagement.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities across Ontario. As an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, last year, OTF invested over $110M into 1,022 community projects and partnerships.
