MPP Rickford Announces Seniors Community Grant for Art and History Programming in Kenora

KENORA – The Ontario government is continuing to support the well-being of local seniors by investing $8,663 in Lake of the Woods Museum through the Seniors Community Grants to help seniors stay active and engaged in the City of Kenora.

This project means the Lake of the Woods Museum can provide free arts and history programming for over 200 area seniors. It creates opportunities to engage in lifelong learning activities, to create meaningful and engaging volunteer opportunities for seniors, and to socially interact through arts activities and memory-based/nostalgia/learning events.

“Today’s investments make a real difference in the lives of seniors in the Northwest,” said Greg Rickford, Member of Provincial Parliament for Kenora – Rainy River. “I’m pleased to announce our government’s support for Lake of the Woods Museum’s programming that keeps seniors connected close to home while staying active with friends, family and the community.”

“Seniors Community Grants are keeping our seniors fit, active, healthy and socially connected close to home, in their communities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “Our government is proud to invest in these projects with local organizations to meet the needs of seniors, provide the supports seniors need and deserve that also help to battle social isolation.”

These projects are part of the 305 Seniors Community Grants investing into communities across Ontario this year.  Since 2018, Ontario has funded 1249 community based projects and invested almost $22 million dollars in Seniors Community Grants that have kept seniors fit, active, healthy and connected while helping to end social isolation and combat ageism.
