Ontario Helping Modernize Redditt Fire Hall

KENORA – The Ontario government is providing $180,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to the Local Services Board of Redditt to refurbish the Redditt Fire Hall and provide a safer workplace for the fire department.

“A modern, well-functioning fire hall is key to helping firefighters provide first-rate emergency response services,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development. “NOHFC funding will increase the efficiency and service life of the fire hall and support the safety and well-being of our northern communities.”

The Local Services Board of Redditt will use NOHFC funding to modernize the fire hall and make workplace safety updates, which include building an office, refurbishing the washroom, renovating the roof and truck bays, and improving interior and exterior lighting. These enhancements will extend the useful life of a critical piece of infrastructure for Redditt.

“The Redditt Fire Department is pleased to have received this grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Foundation Corporation. It will allow our community to refurbish and upgrade our Fire Hall which will extend its service life and increase efficiencies to the operations of our fire department,” said Richard Hunt, Redditt Fire Chief. “We thank the Ontario government and Minister Rickford for their support of our fire department and the community of Redditt.”

The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects—big and small, rural and urban—that stimulate growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $608 million in 5,070 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $1.93 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 8,100 jobs.

• In 2021, the Ontario government launched new and improved NOHFC programs that support more projects in rural northern communities and make it easier for more people and businesses to apply. The programs target existing and emerging markets, provide more work opportunities for Indigenous people and address the skilled labour shortage in the North.
