Ontario Supporting Community Enhancement in Township of Chapple
October 14, 2022
TOWNSHIP OF CHAPPLE – The Ontario government is providing $360,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to the Township of Chapple for an all-season roof for the local ice rink. This investment will help improve community recreational infrastructure, support social connections and improve quality of life for residents and visitors.
“Our government’s investment will help build a safe place for families and individuals to participate in year-round recreational activities and events,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development. “Facilities like this promote social interaction and strong communities.”
Funding will help build a roof over the community’s existing outdoor rink on the waterfront, expanding opportunities for year-round use and providing shelter to enhance user experience. The roof will make the space accessible to more recreation and community events, such as outdoor weddings, fishing tournaments, farmers markets, festivals and more.
The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects—big and small, rural and urban—that stimulate growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $559 million in 4,748 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $1.82 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 7,500 jobs.
Quick Facts
- In 2021, the Ontario government launched new and improved NOHFC programs that support more projects in rural northern communities and make it easier for more people and businesses to apply. The programs target existing and emerging markets, provide more work opportunities for Indigenous people and address the skilled labour shortage in the North.
